Whitehaven is situated on the West Coast of Cumbria having historical connections with the coal and seaport industries.
Nowadays it is famous for its Maritime Festivals which attracts thousands of visitors to see the "Tall Ships"
The Club was originally established as far back as 1824. In 1856 Club hosted All England XI and played further fixtures in 1858, 1866, 1868 while Cumberland v Northumberland in 1874 and 1878. In 1881 the club played United XI and Cumberland v Australia in 1921 followed in 1927 Cumberland v New Zealand. These were very prestigious matches.
During the 50s/60s/70s it hosted Minor Counties matches and now annually hosts a County U17 County Championship fixture.
The Club has over 100 children between the ages of 8 and 16 registered coached by qualified ECB coaches. The Club has also adopted the "Safe Hands" policy for child welfare and appointing 2 Child Welfare Officers.The Club has also been accredited with "Clubmark".
